Other News
On
the 18th of August 2004 BT announced that it is removing the distance related
limits for the most popular broadband services, bringing potentially more than a
million additional homes and businesses based in the
UK
within reach of broadband.
This
is great news for self employed people and small businesses in
Cornwall
, many of which have so far been unable to
benefit from the broadband revolution.
Up
until now, ADSL broadband has only been available within a limited
catchment area of a broadband enabled exchange - up to around 5.5 km. However,
on 6th September, this limitation will be removed - and you are likely to be
able to get broadband regardless of how far away you are from the exchange.
Although you will need to have a line test and there may still
be a few who are unable to get broadband, these will be in
the minority - and Broadband-Cornwall will be striving to bring the
benefits of broadband to these through alternative broadband technologies.
What’s
more, the range for 1MB/sec premium services will be increased from 4km to
approximately 6km – making 1Mb/sec ADSL broadband available to 96% of homes
and businesses connected to a broadband exchange.
